Perth Elective

The faculty requires us to do 6 weeks elective in total. The thing is, we're only going to do 4 weeks in Edinburgh - this means we need to find another 2 weeks from somewhere else.

Presumably most of us will be planning to do this 2 weeks in Perth, although I do know Dino will be going to Sri Lanka to do his 2 weeks there. Sa wants to do Paediatric Neuro, and I think I'll probably do Cardiology or Neuro myself.

But we need to get the forms in soon!

PS Australia win the first Ashes test! Yay!

Learning Italian

Since we're going to be travelling to Italy and staying there for possibly a whole week, I have decided to teach myself Italian!

Of course, I'm going to be needing some assistance with this, so I've called upon my good friend Google to help me. Google pointed me towards this excellent page by the BBC. Hopefully, with the assistance of this page, I will be able to speak Italian in no time!

Hogmanay

Since we're going to be in Edinburgh from the 28th of December, I thought it would be a good idea to do some research into Edinburgh's Hogmanay festival.

Hogmonay is a celebration that runs throughout the New Year Period and includes all sorts of events such as the Torchlight Procession, the Royal Bank Street Party, the Seven Hills Fireworks, the The New Year Revels and more! There is also an annual 1 mile run at 1pm through the city called the The One O'Clock Run. Lots of fun-sounding events, and much merriment to look forward to I imagine!

After many minutes of research, I've realised we can only get tickets for these events in November. So someone needs to remind me in November to have another look at that site before the tickets sell out... :P

Edinburgh is looking more and more fun every day!

Finished the layout

I think I've finally finished the layout of this site now. I could probably add more stuff here and there, but to be honest there's not much point - I think this is good enough!

All of us (Me, Sa, Jane [and Dino's cheque] and Duy) went to STA this morning to pay off our airline tickets, setting all of us back a cool $2k. It's rather expensive! - but has also hit home to me that we're actually going to Europe! Up until now, it's been a relatively incomprehensible concept on the horizon, but now it's a reality.

We all better pass our exams. ;)

Photobucket

Testing Photobucket.

Photobucket is helpful - you can integrate Blogger from Photobucket.com - so that you can actually post entries to Blogger from the Photobucket.

This means the need to visit Blogger.com is gone! And Photobucket.com allows better control over the size and quality of the pics (as you can see).

Adding pics

Since we'll be taking a fair number of pics on our travels, I thought I'd better make sure this thing works!

This is a photoshopped pic of me and Sa in "Edinburgh". Notice how appropriate our clothes are!

Taking shape

Added some weather and time gizmos on the side there. Also updated the top bit with a random pic generator thingy - each time you reload the page it changes the pic!

Slowly this thing is taking shape.

First Post

This is our Edinburgh elective blog. I haven't told Sa about it yet, but I expect she'll be keen on adding to it too!

This will chronicle our journey from lil' old Perth all the way to the other side of the globe, to bonny Edinburgh. And then beyond (if we can get our things sorted out!) to London, Brugge, Paris, Nice, Monaco, Rome, maybe Milan and Florence and then back home again!

From now until then, there may be sporadic updates while we're getting organised. Pretty much the idea of this is something we can point people to whilst we're away so that they can keep tabs on what we're up to while we're gone. It will also give us something we can look back on in a couple of years time.
